Since in the last post I talked about creating flowers out of the bottoms of plastic bottles, this time I thought I’d talk about another craft idea which uses up the middle of the bottle.
This site shows us how to create these sparkly butterflies.
They are easy to make and the results can be very beautiful. It’s a fun activity for the kids too.

I love the idea of creating art from things which would otherwise be thrown away. I came across this post today at Fabulously Green which shows what beautiful things can be made (and easily too) out of ordinary things. These flower petals are made from the bottoms of plastic drink bottles.
This recipe can help mange and other parasitic problems in dogs’ skins.
A very effective lemon-garlic rinse can be made up. Chop up around 30 to 40 cloves of garlic (skin and all) and place into a large pot with 6 or more lemon skins and one whole lemon, chopped. Fill pot with about four litres of water and bring to the boil, simmer just until peel is mushy. Remove from heat, cover and allow to cool. Apply cooled solution liberally to all affected areas and leave to dry. Use daily for up to ten days.

There is a web page here with step by step instructions (with photos) about how to grow tomatoes upside down. I’ve mentioned special planters before which help you do this but it is quiet simple to make the planters yourself out of buckets. Simply drill a hole in the bucket’s bottom and lid, wait till the plant is about 12 inches and then turn upside down and hang from something that’s strong enough. Growing tomatoes upside down is fantastic for those who have little yard space and it also saves you from having to tie the plants to anything to keep them upright.
